1939 Letter to Betty Harris from Merle McCain

Dear Betty:

We were pleased to receive your letter of July 24th, and to know that your mother continues to improve.

Mary's health improves somewhat but not so rapidly as we would like. I suppose it will take some time to rid her system of the poison from the diseased teeth.

I finally took time to make you a copy of the history I have of the McCain ancestry if Ireland and subsequently. You will notice that no dates are shown prior to their coming to America in 1793.

Lynn tells me that you have drawn up a very complete history of the family beginning with my father. If convenient, I would be pleased to receive a copy of that.

We have had occasional showers since you were here but not enough to furnish really adequate moisture. A few bushels of wheat were threshed in some parts of this county but it was mostly a total failure. I am getting less from my place than I ever did before, but we always hope that next year will be better.

I have been so busy that I did a lot of night work last month but I think I am finished with the worst of it now.

I addressed this to you, Betty, but it really meant for both.

With love from both of us, I remain

Your uncle,

Merle McCain
