1966 Will & Betty Harris Family Christmas Letter

December 15, 1966 314 N. Fremont St. River Falls, Wis. 54022 Dear Ones All:           It comes that time of year again when it is our pleasure to greet you once more.  This year has found us staying closer to home than any of the sixteen years that this letter has come your way.  Part of this may be results of growing old and part of it was due to the fact that Will had a series of visits to the hospital, none of which turned up any serious findings, but which kept him rather close to home.            Betty taught full time Arts at Prescott, as she did last year.  She is the president of the Education Association at Prescott, and has had a merry time with a new group of five members of the American Federation of Teachers.  She petitioned the Wisconsin Employees Relations Board for a hearing and an election.  The hearing is over and the election should be soon.  This will determine who is to negotiate with the School Board this coming spring.  This is of special interest since 25 years ago, WIll for three years was on a salary committee for an education association and for one year was the chairman of such a group for the Federation of Teachers.  Our major topic of discussion is in this general area as you can guess.            Bruce is a Junior in college and went to summer school last year.  He lived at the Wesley House for the session, and worked part time at the college.  He lends his deep bass voice to two college choirs.  He still plans to work in the field of Speech Correction.

Doug has become a much in demand folk-singer.  He is president of the United Campus Ministry, which includes the Wesley foundation, and meets in its property.  It looks like the ministry or social work will be his choice.           Merry and Jon came to see us for a while this summer.  They are back at Shiprock in the Federal Government School for the Navajos.  We had much to discuss about their work and ambitions for the future.          The news of the world gives us all some serious moments this Christmastide.  We like the words of Dag Hammarskjold written July 19, 1961:                      Give us                       A pure heart                       That we may see Thee,                       A humble heart                       That we may hear Thee,                        A heart of love                        That we may serve Thee,                        A heart of faith                        That we may love Thee.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

                                                     Will, Betty, Bruce, Douglas                                                                        HARRIS
