1969 Will & Betty Harris Family Christmas Letter

314 N. Fremont Street River Falls, Wisconsin, 54022 November 25, 1969

Dear Ones,

As Christmas draws near so are we drawn near in memory to all of you dear friends. It is not easy to relate bad news, but as some of you know we lost Will on May 26th of this year.  His sudden death for which we were so unprepared stunned us all of course, life will never be the same again for any of us.  But life goes on and so we try to be worthy of the heritage he leaves us.

This was the year of the graduations.  Bruce, Rosemary and Doug (both) and Merry (second time).  Jon and I maintain the status-quo, although he is setting out to change it this year at Arizona State.  It is also the year of beginning again, as D. & R. pulled up stakes from good old Pierce County and headed for Berkeley - where the action is.  He is enrolled at Pacific School of Religion and she has an interesting job in the Sociology Dept. of the U. of Calif. Merry and Jon broke ties with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and moved to Tempe.  They have bought a house near the U. and are enjoying the excitement of campus activities once more.  Their little Erik (otherwise known as Perpetual Motion) will be two years old at Christmas. Bruce and I hold forth at the home stand in R.F where as before the latch string is always out.  This has not changed.  We all plan to be together at Tempe for the holidays and help break in - if not down - M. & J.’s new house. We wish for all of you blessings that Christ’s Spirit brings - the love and joy of this holy season. At one time Will wrote quite a bit of poetry.  Here is an excerpt:

Out of life I carved this niche,                    Ragged, rough, impure.                    A vaulted crevice, not a ditch                    Its memory shall endure.                                                           W.C.H
