Dad’s Christmas Wish - 1939
There is no gift on earth too good
For me to give you if I could,
But if the things you now possess
Do not afford you happiness,
There is no gift which I can pick
That’s guaranteed to do the trick.
There’s love of wife and child and friend,
There are glorious sunsets as they blend
Into a picture none can paint,—
They all are yours without a cent.
Great happiness may not be found
Though earthly stores and wealth abound.
So for my family and for all,
My Christmas Wish is nothing small.
Of material things, may you succeed
In getting all you really need.
My greater wish, you surely guess,—
May your souls breathe out happiness.
