1967 Will & Betty Harris Family Christmas Letter

December 17, 1967 314 N. Fremont St. River Falls, Wisconsin                     54022 Dear Ones All:          As we look back on the previous sixteen editions and think of all the dreams and Utopias which were our guides, we must share a popular one with you.  In Camelot, the epilog speaks of a spot in fantasy which has existed for all of us at one time or another.  It was a favorite of J.F. Kennedy, and we feel impelled to share it with you now.

  • Each evening from December to December, Before you drift to sleep upon your cot- Think back on all the tales that you remember of Camelot.
  • Ask every person if he’s heard the story. And tell it strong and clear, if he has not. That once there was a fleeting whisp of glory, called Camelot.
  • Where once it never rained till after sundown, By eight A.M. the morning fog had flown. Don’t let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, From one brief shining moment, that was known, as Camelot.

As to the news :

  1. We expect to be grandparents any day now. (Merry and Jon Webb)
  2. Doug married Rosemary Webb, sister of Jon Webb, Nov. 22nd.
  3. Bruce is living on the college campus and in his Senior Year.
  4. Betty and Will rattle around in the old homestead busy as usual.

“There was once an old sailor my grandfather knew, Who had so many things which he wanted to do That, whenever he thought it was time to begin,  He couldn’t because of the state he was in.”

December 22nd we take off to New Mexico, to see our new grand-child and the proud parents.  Doug and Rosemary will go to Cleveland for a Methodist Youth Conference.  Bruce will be working for the college during two weeks of vacation.  Merry and Jon are at Fort Wingate, New Mexico, and still in the Bureau of Indian Affairs.  They are in High School work rather than in Elementary.

In August we visited in Milwaukee and the suburbs of Chicago.  We saw friends and relatives , art galleries, Book and Record Shops.  We also brought 300 lbs of clay for our new kiln.  Will’s mother was with us for three weeks and we took her to Milwaukee in early December.  Betty’s Dad passed his 87th birthday about that time, so we had a visit with them.  We now hope that the New Mexico sun will help us regain our summer tan.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR !               Will and Betty and the kids wherever they are.
